The Primary Series is the most important Ashtanga Yoga sequence. Pattabhi Jois was known to say, “First Series most important. Second less important. As Chuck says: “It is not important how far you go, not important how fast you go, but rather that you are headed in the right direction with the right quality of effort.”

The Bull’s Eye:  Exploring How Practice and Philosophy Work Together

January 30 - February 3 (Monday - Friday), 1:30 - 4:00 p.m ¥25,000 for the week / ¥6,500 for one session

Pattabhi Jois is often quote saying that practice is 99% and theory is 1%. I like to add that the 1% is the Bull’s Eye. It is important not only to work hard in practice, but to also have clear idea of where we should be moving and how to apply ourselves. Yoga philosophy gives us guidance. At the same time, our practice can illuminate the philosophy. Together they lead us to the ultimate goal of yoga. This is what Pattabhi Jois meant when he said that “this is not physical exercise. It is mental training, mental cleaning, clearing the mind.”

Inversions & Arm Balances Workshop
February 4 (Saturday) 3:30 - 6:00 p.m. ¥6,000

Inversions offer so many benefits it is difficult to list them. They bring fresh blood to places of stagnation, thus helping to flush out toxins and revitalize us. They open channels, such as blood vessels and lymph, as well as mental channels that open our eyes to different views of ourselves and the world. They test our understanding of how our shoulders work. And they are fun and exhilarating. Going upside down offers us a fresh perspective on life, and as we develop confidence and skill in inversions, we learn turn fear into exhilaration.
